Church Day!

Hello everyone! This is Kristin. Today was our last Sunday in Jamaica. We spent our last two church services, in the morning and evening, at Faith Baptist Church in Flankers. The pastor of this church, Delroy Campbell, has been the person in charge of organizing the local school devotions that we have been a part of these past few weeks. It was fun for the team to be able to attend Pastor Campbell’s church since they have had the opportunity to get to know him in the last two weeks, and it was exciting for Lindsey and me to see a few familiar faces from our visit to his church last year. Pastor Campbell is a very entertaining guy and he loves to tell jokes. He has such a great heart and all of the kids at the schools love him!

Rolling out of bed at 8am this morning seemed to come way too soon after our late night out dancing! As the team slowly and groggily made it out to breakfast, Lindsey and I were wondering if our decision to keep the team out late was the best thing, especially on the night before church. :) But everyone agreed that our entertaining evening out was well worth the lack of sleep. Our morning started like every other Sunday morning with a wonderful breakfast of baked oatmeal, cinnamon rolls, and fruit: a breakfast that we have all come to love and I am sad to say that it was our last Sunday morning breakfast here at Fairhaven. :( After our bodies were nourished, we headed off to church and participated in the Sunday school hour with songs and a skit. Today was missionary Sunday at Faith Baptist and we were happy to be a part of it and serve the congregation with a testimony from Stefene and two special music songs, one sung beautifully by Samantha and the other by Tyler and myself. If you remember from a few nights ago, we met a guy named Michael while walking along the “hip strip” in Montego Bay and invited him to church. We were not sure if he was going to come, but he ended up showing up this morning. It was encouraging for us to see that we made an impression on him. He did tell me that he enjoyed being around us and appreciated that we are real and genuine. God can use us to show Christ’s love by simply making ourselves available to have conversations with people we meet. My hope and prayer is that this is just the beginning for Michael and he will continue to pursue and seek out his interest in God and the Christian faith.

After church we came home to have a late lunch and we spent the afternoon playing some more Phase 10 (my new favorite card game), napping, and getting ready for the evening service as well as our day tomorrow.

We headed back to Faith Baptist Church this evening for another service in which Grace, Tyler, Stefene, and Jen sang a song and Katie and Sam shared short testimonies of what God has been teaching them while here in Jamaica. Tonight was Jen’s first time singing in front of a group of people and she sounded great, and Sam and Katie were an encouragement to us all! During church, while trying to avoid being eaten by all the bugs, we were also being entertained by our new friend O’Brian as some of us attempted to sign to him. O'Brian is a deaf child to one of the woman at the church. In the group picture we took at church tonight, you can see O’Brian being silly in the front with Stef and Grace as well as with Tyler in another picture.

After the service, we came home and had a late dinner of quesadillas with rice and beans. It is our nightly ritual to sit down each evening and read the blog and the comments, so once again we read all of your comments. Thank you for your support and encouragement! It is so comforting to know that all of our loved ones are thinking of us and praying for us back in the states. We love you all! As we begin our last week in Jamaica, I would ask that you pray for continued strength and endurance to finish strong for these last three days of ministry. We are all tired and many of us are beginning to feel weary, emotionally and spiritually. May our anxiousness to be home to see our family and friends not keep us from the plans God has for us during this last week!

Much love and blessings to you all!

A few last things:

Sami’s mom: Your precious daughter is doing great! Her thumb is feeling much better and she is no longer in the brace. We’re taking good care of her!
Jen’s mom: Jen and the rest of us are all wondering if you would please bring GG to the airport. We are growing quite fond of her through her comments and are dying to meet her!

To my family: I miss you all! I’m excited to move home when I get back. Sissy, I’m excited to spend the summer with you! I’ll see you all soon!
Kip: You should be nervous, because my tan is looking good. I hope you are working on yours too! :) There’s too much to say….I miss you…I’ll talk to you in 6 days, see you in 8! :-) more than you know
Levi: Thank you for all of your comments! I hope you aren’t too lonely with all of us gone. Thanks for your letter, it was a great surprise! Keep trusting and depending on Him!

Down to the last few days....you've all done such a great job and I doubt there's any lack of motivation to keep up your great works there in Jamaica. Great pictures as always today. Ty, I was rudely awakened by Rylee (more specifically her paws on my chest) at 6:05 this morning. A lovely way to start off a vacation day of sleeping in! Just think, in another week or so you can enjoy the same alarm clock. :) We finished the family move yesterday and everyone is settled in. I can't wait to talk to you and see you next week. Love, dad

Hello Team! After looking at that picture of Sam, I wonder what his testimony was about! Just kidding, I am sure it was great, as Sam has a great heart for the Lord.

Sam - We had lunch and spent some time with Ben yesterday. I get the sense he misses you a lot and like he said in his post, he wants you to dominate!!! He has an interview this week with PBS, which would be a cool job for him, so please keep him in your prayers this week. Also, if he has the time, he is planning on dismantling his water bed and giving it to you. Now we just need to get you some sheets for it. He also got your car washed, but that was a week ago, so who knows what it looks like now. Anyway, we all love and miss you. Grandpa has enjoyed reading the posts, but I think he is still confused as to how to send a post to you. He is coming here Thursday night. Maybe I can teach him then.

Anyway, we miss you (we all say that so much, but its true) and continue to pray for your health, safety, and to be brought home to all of us stronger, and changed. God's blessings on you. Have a great final week.

Good morning, Jamaica Team! This is Renee Olsen, Joey's mom again. It's a holiday here in the USA, Memorial Day, and I just enjoyed catching up on your advertures over the past week. It is very clear to someone on the outside looking in that the Lord is using you to make a difference to the children, their caregivers and the others you meet in Jamaica. Be encoruaged that He is working through you even when you can't see it immediately.

Lindsey, Jim and I are looking forward to seeing you after you and Joey get to camp. Maybe dinner at that sushi place in Santa Cruz you and Joey never found!

Love, Renee

oh snap Kristen:)hehe, thank you for my personal note and I thank all of you for taking care of Sami for me.
Well guys, this is your last week before you all come home. I am excited but most importantly we as family and friends really need to hold you all up in prayer to keep the strength and spirits going. You are excited too about coming home but on the other hand want to continue to touch more lives and deepen the ones you already have.
I know you have made an impact and Jamaica will never be the same.
I am happy that Michael came to the service. It is wonderful to know that because of your faithfulness and love for him, you all showed him the LOVE OF GOD. He feels the stirring of the Holy Spirit moving and he wants more of it. People know if your real by your actions.
This is the way God works, you touch one life, then he touchs a life and on and on. See how incredible God is? When we are obedient and follow his Word, he works wonders. Know that you have planted the seeds and God will do the rest. Continue to use your gifts, pray without ceasing and keep your eyes on Jesus.
Sami, I am so happy that your thumb is healed and you have taken off your sling. It's tan time:) Antionette asked me the other night to go to Maylasia with her to a health conference. I don't know the dates yet but by the time you get home I will probably know. I am still unpacking putting things away.
We have a mall right next door and a health food store 1 block away. Yeah! I love you and miss you alot and most definitely looking forward to you coming home.

Kristin, I'm glad you got my letter. I wasn't sure if it was going to get to the office in time. I see that the cricket ball didn't leave a mark, which is good. However, if your going to tan (and this goes for the rest of the team as well) make sure to apply sun block. I am and I will continue to trust him and depend on him, especially with the new things going on in my life. I will tell you about those things at another time. Well take care of your selves and I pray that these last few days your there will be strongest and most powerful.

Happy Memorial Day! I'm writing this Monday if you can't tell (: My dad's veterans group had a really nice service at the park today and I wish you could have been there! So on that note thanks to all those team jamaica-ers and families that have lost a loved one while serving our country! I am so excited for you to come home and am praying that God will continue to use each of you guys in amazing ways with these next 5 days! Miss you!!!!!! When it rains it pours and opens doors
And floods the floors we thought would always keep us safe and dry
And in the midst of sailing ships we sink our lips into the ones we love
That have to say goodbye (that was to get a song stuck in your head(: )

to Jen from GG,I'll be at the airport with bells on! I burst into tears when I read that comment!! thank you so much, I am so deeply touched you will never know. And your TEAM I will get to meet them all, I am in overwhelm. And could you do my roots again when you get home? or we can do the pool thing. Please have any one of the manly guys and girly girls that would like to come for the pool, some tennis, fitness centers and jacousie and my famous snacks, cheese and crackers, little ham roll-ups, some Eyetalian secret recipes, and those homemade cookies you love. The week is coming to an end and then it may seem like a dream for awhile, the contrast in everything will have to be processed, but what do I know? I am sincere about the pool thing, though. My goal is to walk to the airport lounge to watch you come down the escalator with your TEAM while I take pictures. And after your family and friends have you for awhile, then you must come with or without TEAM and I will show you my new bikini. Being 74 and my whole body is one big wrinkle except for my face which from the presnidone does not have a wrinkle or even a tiny line any place. I have the wrong head or the body is wrong, they don't match. Can't wait to see you and whoever suggested I come to the airport is the all time best person ever. Thank you so much!!!
LOVE and HUGS, GG

Make this last week count...because you will remember it...this trip will have an impact on the rest of your life. Keep going at it.

Miss you a ton...

Kip

PS I'm really getting into this home owner thing...I'll have to show you some stuff.

As the days have continued, when I read this blog I wonder more and more if you all can actually see the numerous aspects this mission trip has taken on. Being immersed in the middle of it, it might take a while to fully realize how God's hand has been on you and in you as you have reached out to others in unexpected ways.

You left here with the goal of doing ministry in the beautiful country of Jamaica, but your ministry has reached far beyond the boundaries of that country. We got to experience that on Saturday as we watched the reaction of several family members to your blog.

As anxious as I am for you all to come home, I will miss reading this blog each night or morning. Remember that your mission trip does not end the moment your plane lands at LAX on Saturday night. It will continue on in waves that won't stop.

You are for me the embodiment of Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Love you Linds! Make the most of these last days! Mom
