Robin's Nest: Take 1!

Hey everyone at home! It's Tyler and it is your lucky day! First off, because you aren't covered from head to toe in bug bites, second, your towel gets to reach a dry state between showers, and lastly, there are a ton of pictures posted today! Today, as most of you know, was our first day at the orphanage. It was quite an amazing experience for all of us! I really wish we all could get on the computer and tell you all the funny and heart-warming stories of our interactions with the children, but I think you will have to wait for stories first hand from your loved ones when we arrive at home.
In the morning we started out with devotions and breakfast at a glorious time of 7 am (5 am west coast time!). Then we all headed up the beautiful, scenic hill to Robin's Nest lined with banana trees, coconut trees, guava plants, and all sorts of tropical vegetation... well, all but two of us. Sammy, accompanied by our fearless leader Lindsey went to the hospital today to get her thumb x-rayed. And good news, it is not broken! Although, it is sprained and she has to have it in a splint for the next two weeks (that's going to be a sweet tan line!). But the good thing is is that she can take it off for swimming and showering! Hurray! But as they were headed to the hospital the eight of us walked through the doors of the orphanage and were immediately greeted by smiling children reaching out their arms to be lifted up, and man were they cute! We then proceeded to hang either play with the kids or help out around the "nest" with laundry, cleaning floors, and stuff like that.
I really want to share with you guys about one of the moments today that really touched my heart. In the morning one the first kids i got to play with was a little girl by the name of Neon. She was a lot calmer than most of the other kids, but still enjoyed being tossed in the air! (who wouldn't?) But she was definitely a cuddler, when I held her she would just nuzzle her head into my body. A couple yawns later I could definitely tell she was about to zonk out, and that's when one of the staff asked me if I wanted to lay her in her crib. I've never really done that before, and I'm sure most of you know that it is pretty easy, but I was afraid I was going to wake her up when I put her down. So I laid her down gently and she continued to dream. It was definitely something I had never experienced before and really put a smile on my face! And again, I think you'll have to wait till June to hear about some amazing stories that my other team members have, sorry...
Sammy and Lindsey arrived at lunch time from the hospital and got to hang out with us at the orphanage for the rest of the day. It was nice to have the whole team back together! Also, shortly after lunch the bigger kids got out of school and came back home to Robin's Nest. When they arrived we got the chance to go swimming with most of them and it was a ton of fun! They are extremely energetic little ones! Following the pool we had to head home for the day so we told them all we would see them tomorrow and hopped back on the bus with Chris.
Guess what we did when we got back home... you got it! Took a big long nap!! :-D And it was niiiice! (I think a few of the girls went swimming in the ocean for a little bit actually) But the majority of us woke up just in time for dinner, which was pork, potatoes, and vegetables, definitely needed to restore our energy from playing with kids all day! And after dinner we just hung out and eventually had team time to reflect on our experiences with the kids today.
We were all so blessed today to start what we came here for, and are all definitely excited to go back tomorrow and for the rest of the week! Thank you guys so much for the prayers so far!! And we all love reading the comments! We were so stoked that there were 18 posts yesterday! So please keep the prayers and comments coming! They are really encouraging! We all miss you guys a ton and can't believe that there are still 19 days in the way of us seeing you again, but we are here for a purpose and are eager for God to use us however He wants! Talk to you guys tomorrow!
And the cool thing about writing the blog for today is I get to send out personal messages! Woo hoo! Molls, I am loving the notes each morning, I only wish they were pages each... :-) miss you! Sean, thanks for the words of encouragement buddy, you are awesome! Dad, thanks for the the comments so far! Its always great to see your name while scrolling through them!! And mom, thank you so much for your comments as well! I praying really hard for you tomorrow! God is good and just and everything happens for a reason, whether we will ever see it or not. I love you and will talk to you soon! :-)
Love you all!

I got really scared when I read the blog the first time too, because I thought it said Linds had to go to the hospital to get her thumb x-rayed. But, now I understand, Sam, so glad it's not broken! And, I am stoked on your sweet tan line too, haha. Glad you guys had a first day, the kids are precious and I am glad you all get to love them. Love and prayers

Those pictures are just precious!:)
Their faces are bleaming with excitment because they feel your LOVE. I am continually praying that God is using all of you as vessels to transfer His love and caring for each one of them including all of the adults that watch over them. I pray that God will give all of you the strength and begun tranforming your lives through all of this. Know that you are all doing God's Good Works! He is so proud of all of you and so am I. Look to God for Wisdom and Guidence and your words will be His. If you depend on Him for everything, your faith will grow deep.
When you begin to feel down and discouraged. Begin to Praise God and He will lift your spirits.
God pays attention to those who call on him. Whether God offers escape from trouble or help in times of trouble, we can be certain that He always hears and acts on behalf of those who love Him. Psalm 34 I will bless the Lord at all times; His priase shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast to the Lord, The humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the Lord with me. And let us exalt His name together.
Love to all.
Sami baby, I miss you and Love you

Jamaica mon! Sounds like you guys have already been having a great impact on others and each other. The possibilities are endless with such a solid team as yours. Keep enjoying each others company while being able to share His love. Prepare to be broken down by His grace (and Grace "the boss" Eleyae). Allow Him to work in and through you whole heartedly. Cherish the moments you have with the orphans and everyone. Create memories that will last forever. Write down the times that you have had and will have, those words on paper will take right back to that specific moment in time. I guess what I am tryin to say is to love on people. Stop and think about how often you hear the words "I Love You" then imagine yourself in the children's shoes of never hearing that. Keep each other lifted up in prayer. Sami - keep laughing and that positive attitude that you are know for. Grace - keep smilin that beautiful smile. Tyler - you have to do the baby voice to make some kid laugh.ha. Jen - open your heart, give a hug, and giggle. I'm in daily prayer for you guys. Keep up His good work!
Much Love,
Brandon

Wow, Ty it's so good to hear your voice (well, at least your writing). It makes me miss you more but leaves me endlessly proud of the project you've chosen with friends to do in Jamaica. The pictures are as great as always today and the love in the children's eyes as well as all of you is obvious. Keep up the great work. And those naps....sorry none of those once you arrive home. I have lots of projects lined out for you knowing that you're eager to get started on them all summer. :) Oh, and it's been 80 degrees here, dry towels, no humidity, and best of all NO BUGS!!! Have a great day, all of you! We miss you.

Well uh, I've done that (5 times a day actually) and it's NOT easy. I've got a cranky baby to prove it :)

Anyways, go Jamaica. Love your buns Lindser.

Hi guys! Sorry about your thumb Sam, but the kids are going to love your splint!!! Don't worry too much about the tan lines, just ask Linds about her tan lines when she returned from her first Jamaica mission trip a couple of years ago!!

I have shared your blog with my small group in Richland, WA and though they don't know any of you personally, their prayers for you and your ministry there! I wish you could have heard the incredible prayer of a visiting missionary from India for you last night

I look forward to the next posting.

Hi guys,
It is great to see the faces of the kids and knowing how much love they are about to receive as given by a great bunch of servants. Sorry about the sprain but the kids are going to love that splint!!! As for the tan line Sam, don't worry, just ask Linds about her tan line she came home from Jamaica with two years ago!

Our prayers will continue to be with you!

Hi, Tyler--your Dad gave me your blogspot last night at our Youth Exchange Committee meeting. This is just incredible! I absolutely loved seeing your pictures and the contributions you and your other team members have made. What an amazing trip. It just hurts my heart to see these kids' faces--how beautiful they are! I know you are having a great time and are really blessing the kids there as well as the rest of your team.

I asked your Dad about your summer plans and he said you would be back home in a few weeks. Any chance you'd be able to do VBS with us again? You are such an incredible teacher, and I'd love to have you. It's July 16 - 20, and it's a waterpark theme--"Take the Plunge."

Have a great rest of your trip and God bless you! Jane

It is so awesome to hear from all you guys! I am praying for you all that you may continue to be safe and proclaim the gospal to those in Jamaica. Ty- I miss you man and I hope that you're doing good (although from the blogs it looks like you're having a blast!)...be careful not to throw any footballs up on a roof while you're playing with the kids!
