Day of Rest and Church

Hey this is Sami with another amazing blog from Jamaica MON! (yes I am working very hard on my Jamaican accent, which I should have down in 2 weeks!) So today was definitely our “Day of Rest”. We had to get up around 8:30, (which is a huge change from our normal 6:45 wake up call) and had some great baked oatmeal, cinnamon rolls, and fresh Jamaican fruit for breakfast. Our bus driver Chris arrived and we were off to Church. Grace, Sam, Tyler, and Stefene sang in the main church service and Garrett did an amazing job giving his testimony. He genuinely shared his heart, and we were all so proud of him! During the church service the team snuck downstairs to the children’s church to help out, or so we thought. When we got down there we were informed that we had to do the whole 1 ½ hours, when we only had about 10 minutes prepared. The children were out of control! So we decided to play some good ole games like sword exercises and hang man. While church was going on, it started pouring outside- like flooding and continued the whole day, so again our tan day was ruined :( After church and Sunday School we headed back to Fairhaven for an early dinner. After dinner we all took some much needed naps- tried to catch up on sleep- but I was rudely interrupted by Samuel who thinks it’s funny to wake up sleeping beauties ;) After we woke up we all went to church again for a little choir sesh (thanks Polley for the word). That was fun, but we were all tired because it didn’t end until about 9:30 (which is late for us to be out at night normally). There were some incredibly HUGE bugs including a bat (which Jen swears was just a really, really big moth); I guess we will never know. Haha. We got home, had a little talky time between team members, showers and had an incredible batch of Mac and Cheese. After Dinner and Ice Cream from Edy’s- which strangely resembles Dryer’s, we just sat around and planned for tomorrow’s new adventures to come.
So as I am writing it is Midnight Jamaican time, (10 p.m. California time) and I have to be up in 6 in a half hours for devotions prepared by Jen. Please pray for us tomorrow as we venture out to a whole new orphanage. We will be going to Blossom Gardens which is a state run orphanage instead of a privately owned place. Pray that we impact the children we come in contact with, and we connect with the staff. Pray for guidance that we know exactly what needs to be done. Also, some of us on the team (not me for once) have not been feeling up to par, so pray for health on the team, because we would not be team Jamaica without each individual person. Soooo in conclusion I must get off to sleep or I will be a grumpy person tomorrow, and I don’t think my team would appreciate it. Hehe. So this is my sign off- Good night California! (and Oregon and where ever you may be sending up your prayers) Keep the constant comments coming- it lifts our spirits!

Now for MY shout outs~~ Momma- I LOOOOOVE you! I miss you lots. Thanks so much for all your love and support you have not only showed me (with my pre-written daily devotions, hearts and cute little notes), but all the support you have shown my amazing team. We all joke about how your comments are longer than our blogs, but we love them. Hehe. Anyways I will see you sooner than you think! Keep up the great work you’re doing.
Soash’s- Thanks so much for all your love and support! I can’t wait to take a trip down memory lane to Matt Denny’s J Miss and love you guys!
Bee & Ruth- Thanks so much for your comments. We look forward to reading more! Love and miss you girls!

Oooo... my first time being the first comment! This is a little passage from my Mister Rogers book for you guys but pretend I am saying it to you...
If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.
-Mister Rogers
Thanks for leaving something of yourselves in my life! I am excited to hear about what you leave with the new kids tomorrow. Goodnight and I am praying for your health and day tomorrow. Miss you oh so much!

Also ask the children if they like to play these kinds of games..
Dandy Shandy which is the same as Dodge Ball. They use a milk carton stuffed with paper
Brown girl in the ring
stucky freezy(or mother may I)
:):):):):)just having a little fun.
I am excited for all of you to go to another orphanage.I am praying for the Holy Spirit go before all of you so their hearts will be open to your love and messages that you bring to them. Their lives too will be impacted by all of you.
You are a Shining Light of God and His special messengers..
I will also be praying for healing and protection for your health. By the way Sami, how's our little thumb doing? If not in pain, you can take off bandages, but if you think you might bump it leave it on loosly. Check circulation.
Who ever thought of these fantastic blogs was a genius.
It is the next best thing to being there. Not much is happening here at home. A little drama in Albuquerque but nothing they can't handle.
Give Praise and Thanksgiving to the Lord.
He will honor and Bless you in your obedience to Him.
The psalmist sings out his praises to God, overwhelmed by all that God has done. If we believe God is great, we cannot help telling others about him. The best witnessing happens when our hearts are full of appreciation for what he has done. God has chosen to use us to "Tell" his wonderful deeds among all the people.
You are all Wonderful!!
Sami thank you for your sweet comments. I love you and miss you
Momma

Hi Tyler and the rest of the team. Orphanage #2 this week and a whole lot of new faces to influence, enjoy, and be affected by! I know you'll all leave your postive influences behind this week as you did last week. I'm sure you all had a great first day and I'll look forward to hearing about it.
Ty, lots going on around here. Mom and Brian bought a house together and are moving this weekend, lucky you in missing out on two moves in the same weekend. :) B also has some painting for you when you're up to it. Enjoy your time and I MISS YOU.

Team Jamaica is the best! You continue in my prayers and thoughts so often during the day. It was nice to know you had a "day off" on Saturday and a chance to get some well-deserved rest. God has great things in store for you this week!

Hi Jen from GG.Does it seem like you've always been in Jamaica? Probably when you get home you'll feel like you've never been. Then those great photos trigger this amazing, beautiful experience. 2 more weeks of giving your love, save some for me, your poolside buddy.I've learned so much from you!We had a mountain lion adventure, so we thought. Someone saw what they said was a very big cat watching them eating lunch, but turns out must have been a BIG moth!Love the USA speak translated into Jamaican. Make sure you learn a few words so you can see if we can guess what you're saying! That's it for now, will check again tonight to see if any new photos or comments. Much Love,

Hi Jen and team,
I imagine that at times you guys may feel like it is too late and too tiring to blog. But you bless us every day and I cannot thank you enough for being so selfless. I am curious how different a government orphange is from a private orphanage. Are the kids treated as well? All that matters is that you are there loving them and that they feel God's presence through you. Jen, GG wasn't kidding about the mountain lion. She called me to tell me not to come over because I might get attacked. Who would have thought it was a HUGE moth?LOL I love you so much and know that no matter how much I miss you I know that you are in the right place and God would not want you anywhere else. I can wait. IS RACHEL NOT THE BEST?! We love you Rachel! Much love and admiration to the whole team. I love you tons Jen, MOM

Kristin, I pray that your first day at the new orphanage goes well. I hope that the whole team is feeling okay; I read that a few were sick. There is no way I can be more funny than Catherine Kaiser...were did she get all that?

I hope with the rainy weather you can still get a tan...it would be a shame if you lost this bet while being so close to the equator...

:-) Miss you!

I am assuming that today's blog was written by Sami and not SAMUEL, as the end of the blog says. I would love if SAMUEL said I LOVE YOU MOM, but I don't know any of those other people mentioned! :) Anyway, happy to hear updates every day. I rush to my computer each day to see what new things are going on with each of you. I sent the web site to my church so that other members of my congregation can follow your story and keep you close in prayer. You are all in my daily thoughts, especially SAMUEL (ok Sami, I like ya too!) Be safe and know you are all loved!

Garrett- So you gave your testimony…and Sami says that you did an amazing job and genuinely shared your heart-I TOTALLY believe it!! I’m even betting you didn’t write any of it out besides a few bullet notes when you went up there, LOL.
I hope you and your team are now feeling up to par. I will be praying for all of your strength and health to do all you can do in the upcoming days/weeks.
By the way, the Dunns Falls pictures were gorgeous. I love seeing God’s amazing creations.
And oh a nothing thing Garrett…I REALLY appreciated your personal note the other day. And I already made sure Kylee got your message and I will give every family member of yours a HUGE hug the next time I see them :) love ya.
