Today our morning began once again at the early hour of 7am. Our drive up to Robin's Nest was a truly cultural and educational experience. Our bus driver Chris loves to share stories and tell us all about the different plants, trees, and fruits that grow in Jamaica. So much so, that this morning he suddenly stopped the bus, jumped out, and literally scaled a steep hill in order to pick some Ethiopian apples for us to enjoy on our drive to the orphanage. We all love Chris and it is so great for the team to be able to learn first hand about the "real" Jamaican culture and the true heart and life of the Jamaican people!
As you can tell from the pictures, today at the nest was filled with more fun and lots of laughter! I did a lot of tickling today and I think my tummy is sore from all the laughter! It is amazing how quickly we get
attached to the kids and begin to build relationships with them as we play, interact, and learn about their stories. Today we were able to read through an informational book about Robin's Nest that talked about many of the kids and their each individual stories. It is heartbreaking to learn about the immense struggles and home lives that many of these kids have come from. I was humbled today as I put my own life into perspective and thought about the things that I worry about and complain about in my own life. These kids have endured so much and known hardships that I will never have to experience, yet they already have. I am comforted knowing that God has a purpose in all things, but still filled with sadness and compassion. But I am thankful that they are now living in a place where they can experience the love of God.
Our day was filled with playing with kids, reading stories, playing in the pool, and doing various chores around the house. I am very proud to tell you that our boys proved to be very manly men today as they participated in manly chores, such as clearing brush and chopping down an enormous tree. I am suppose to specifically mention that they were chopping down the tree with machetes, which apparently was a pretty big deal! :) So, unfortuately the documentation of these activities were erased but tomorrow we will have some pictures to show off their studliness!
After our energy filled day we came back to Fairhaven, Samantha and I took naps while the rest of the team swam in the Ocean. We
had dinner and finished the evening with team time, reflecting on our day.
It has been a honor to watch the team interact and have experiences at the orphange. I am encouraged by their willingness to serve in whatever area they are needed. I am excited to see what God begins to stir in each one of us as we continue to experience new things and allow God to
move in us and begin to transform our hearts. Thank you for your prayers and continued support. As we have already told you, we love the comments! We have started to bet on how many we will have when we check the blog, so please keep them coming! :) Blessings to all our family! We miss you but know that God has us here right now for a reason!
And because Tyler took the opportunity to give some personal messages, now it is my turn. My family, I miss you and love you all! Dad, I am praying for your healing and I hope that you are feeling better and recovering quickly. Kip, I miss you so much! Thanks for your comments. In case you didn't notice, Joey has made a comment every day so far....I know how competitive you are and I wouldn't want Joey to beat you in comment posting! lol! :-) :-) :-)
may God bless you and keep you.

Thanks for the update Kristin and your insight re: the kids at the orphanage. As you said, there are so many things that can bring us down during a day but most are nothing compared to what others have experienced. It's sad that kids so young have endured what they have but, on the other hand, good that they have dedicated people like Team Jamaica '07 to brighten their lives with love and a purpose. You all traveled such a long way to influence the lives of others less fortunate and are finding that they have touched your lives and hearts with memories that you'll never forget. Soak up all the moments and keep up all the great work that you are all doing.
Ok, I think I finally figured out how to do this...I already sent a comment, but it must be flying around cyberspace somewhere...
Love hearing about your adventures, the people you are meeting and the scenery must be gorgeous. I am praying for those precious little hearts of those adorable kids. What an impact you are all making on each other. Keep up the great work...
Dad is doing amazingly well.
We love you and God bless you all!!
Love,
PJ Bronson xoxoxoxoxo
I am glad we finally got to see a picture of LKB!!! I feel like every year there is a picture with kids just crawling all over you, haha. Glad working at the orphanage is going so well! I am sure it's heart wrenching, I can only imagine. I wanted to give a shout out to my man Samuel Adams, that beard is looking great! Keep it up. And, sad story gang, tonight the warriors were eliminated from the play offs. Smooches
Glad the men were put to some good manly work! I hope you had a steak and some football after (: Katie I love the pic of you and that cute little guy! Still praying for you guys and the awesome things God is doing through each of you! Miss you!
Another great update of the day. What a joy it is to see the smiles on all your faces and what a blessing it is for those kids to have a GREAT TEAM sent from God. YOU..ALL Remember.. His work is being accomplished through all of you. God has picked each and every one of you to be there with them at this moment in time. To minister , to care and to love those little ones.
I know it is sad knowing those kids are in an orphanage but rest assured that God has plans for them and He will and has protected them. With the Love that you all give them, they will in return love others and that is why we are here, is to help and love one another. Not ever expecting anything in return, but as we give, we get back ten fold.
I am so proud of all of you for giving of yourselves. I am still praying for stength and for spirits to stay up. It is hard to constantly be up, if you do get down, Look first to God and then
a team member to pray with you.
Your doing a great Job.
Love to you all!
Sami, I love and miss you alot:)xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxx
Wow, I feel inlove with those kids and I am not even there. I am also curious about the staff that live there. I bet their devotion to the kids inspires you. And please tell Chris thank you sor taking such good care of you. It sounds like each day he starts it off with joy, laughter and education. I am so happy that you all have eachother to share this experience with. I am so proud of all of you because you have chosen to be God's servants and have opened your hearts and soul to living a life putting God first. You are an amazing group. Jen, everything is fine here. We miss you and look so forward every morning to reading this fantastic blog.
I love you tons, MOM
Kristin, Thanks for your note, it meant a lot…and don’t worry about the comment posting…it is in the bag...
The work you all are doing looks so amazing…the kids really just want someone to care about them…and I know they can feel that when you guys are there with them…We always think about these trips as be a blessing to us, or how we learned so much…but you can see by their faces that you all are a blessing to them…keep up the good work!
I really don’t want this to be public knowledge…but Texas is treating me good…or I’m just lucky…
Miss you… :-)
Kip
Awesome update again guys! Although I must say Im a little disappointed I didn't get to see the pictures of the men doing some manly work..I think that pretty much would have made my day here in the office. Im a little jealous as I sit in a desk typing that you guys are out in beautiful Jamaica playing with kids and swimming in the ocean. Keep up the great work. Katie, looks like you're having alot of fun...you're RA is proud of you :) Tyler, lets make those pictures happen huh? I wanna see manly tyler hard at work with machetes.
To the whole Team: I was reading ACTS last night and about the Great Commission and thought of you guys instantly. Continue to spread the Good News to the ends of the earth, and do not grow tired in doing good. Bear one anothers burdens in love and continue to build each other up. Be real and honest in you reflection time and have Gods eyes as you work--look for need, hurt, look for where the Holy Spirit is leading you. You are in Jamaica for a specific person--maybe for one specific child. Listen. Pray. be patient. Love
In Him,
Sean Thompson
Hi Team, It is so wonderful to hear all the daily details, you writers are all doing a fabulous job! Love the pictures too. The children look so beautiful and to think they've had such difficult lives is truly hard to imagine. May God bless and use you to do His amazing work.
(We love you, Jen!)
Hi, Everyone!
Glad you're having a wonderful time. Cutting down trees with Machete's IS a big deal! Lots of muscle involved! Guys, you should be proud of yourselves. Grace, we miss you very much. I met a girl from Jamaica at the PwC seminar today and told her about your mission trip. It made her homesick.
Looking forward to tomorrow's comments...
Grace's Mom
Dear Jen,
I thought I'd mention to you that I have a really heavy duty bug spray, not suntan lotion. Too late! I love reading every word from you kids and the comments. Does everybody eat the same thing for lunch? Do you stay with the same kids each day or do you all interact with all of the kids. Have you each found a child you want to bring home? Do the kids behave? Love you, miss my pool buddy, GG
Hey Team Jamaica! Your pictures are amazing! I'm so glad you are having such a wonderful time! When I read the blogs and look at the pictures I do get a little sad thinking I can't be there with you. I'm praying for you guys. Take care of the little team, kb and lb. Miss you. You guys are amazing.
"It's not the pale moon...oh no...It's just the nearness of you"
So I finally got this thing to work! First off, I am so proud of you Team Jamaica! The updates and pictures are just heart warming! Keep up the amazing work of God! I am praying for all of you. So some personal messages.....
Sami... Let me give my personal merrrrh! I am so happy that your little thumb isn't broken but still you have to wear that fashionable sling thingy. I know that you are loving on all of those cute kids and I am so happy you are there giving all of those hugs and kisses that you are so amazing at giving! You are warming my heart and making me smile with joy! I love you Sissy!
SA... It looks like some of the kids are teaching you how to really break dance! I hope that you show them some moves and you learn some too! I am so happy that you are there spreading the word on how great Jesus is! I know that everyday God is opening your eyes to new things and filling your heart with even more love and joy than you already have. You are such a wonderful person and I am so excited that you are putting yourself out there for the world to see! In your words you are the realist! Oh by the way, I am up to my usual square things so all is normal here!
Gracie... You are my gurl and you are truly filled with God's love. So spread that love all over Jamaica and then we will have "one love" (get it Bob Marly...your in Jamaica)! So I for some crazy reason I ended up on the wrong freeway and ended up in Chino which was defiantly a sign from God for me to think and pray about you even more than I already have...so I have been. You are such a beautiful soul and I am so happy you are having a life changing experience! Keep working on your tan Haha... but really. I love you!
Hey Jen!!!
it looks like you are having so much fun. Mom wants me to write you a comment every day, so it will be fun talking to you without you being able to say anything back! haha I love you and have fun!
