Today, we woke up extra tired due to the long previous day, and a draining night of pounding rain and non stop thumping from the club bangers next door. Yet nothing today would slow us down because we knew it was our last day with these amazing kids at the
First though, we stopped at Redding School. We introduced ourselves to these new strangers by doing goofy songs that made everyone jump, shout and dance, which in one song included doing the robot briefly. Let me just mention that I perform a mean robot. Anyways, that got the kids awake and laughing, and we then had the opportunity this morning to do our entertaining version of the David and Go
liath story. The kids and the faculty really enjoyed the skit, which was good way to start the day by lifting our spirits.
As you walk into Robin's Nest Orphanage, a leather book rests on the front desk. This book acts as a sort of yearbook for the orphanage by telling the names and birthdays of each child next to his or her picture. Underneath that, is a brief description of how that
particular child has ended up at the home. Some were taken to the orphanage after serious cruel abuse, others suffering for serious diseases, and one is even the result of incest. Yet you wouldn't figure any of this because 26 of the most beautiful, welcoming, and joyful children live here under this roof. We arrived at Robin's Nest with the welcoming we have received everyday this week... attacked with love. As each child pulled a team member somewhere in opposite directions, and laughter began to echo through the halls of the the orphanage. In every corner of the house, you could find a cute Jamaican child wrapped and tangled in a m
ember of our team. Work was of course issued and done but we all may have been working a little bit harder and faster so we had as much time with the kids as we could get. Pool time consisted of little bodies flying through the air until gravity had them smack the water, or tiny hands desperately clinging onto the neck of a team member who was making their way around the area. Once in dry clothes, we felt the end of our last
day at this orphanage sneaking up on us. We all tried figuring out ways to escape to the bus without saying goodbye because it would be to hard to here them say, "But you're coming back tomorrow right?" But the goodbyes had to be done. :(
Each of us made our way around the house giving our last hugs and pulling out of last laughs from the kids. It was especially hard to say goodbye to the staff members who many of us have built strong friendships with througho
ut the week. Adults like Glaston, Sefton, and Georgia have made a lasting impression on us all with their work ethic, love for children, and desire and hope for one day being in America. They all smile as they do routine chores in hope for one day being able to be on United States soil. They all want to hear about America, and are not shy about telling you not "if" but when they come to America, what great things they plan to accomplish. Their view on America that we often overlook really makes you appreciate the great country we get to live in, and how we forget that we are truly blessed to be somewhere where that education is promoted and opportunities are endless.
Today might have been the hardest day yet, but it ended with all of us opening up and telling how we are truly feeling on this trip and just in our lives in general. A combination of tears and laughter really brought us together even closer, and I'm excited to see our group grow as one to
wards that guy in the sky (God).
In conclusion, I haven't shaved yet and luckily I'm not searching for a wifey down here because I'm getting gross. I have tried to recuit the other guys by hiding their razors but it was only matter of time before they came to me begging for their blades back. I think they are considering it though which is good. Plus I'm starting to resemble that one guy who lived thousand of years ago and performed miracles. What was his name? He died for our sins and rose from the dead.... O YEAH, JESUS! Who better to look like a
s I'm out trying to recuit for his team in heaven hahaha.
Well homesickness is creeping up on each team member so keep the comments and love coming ok! I would also like to mention that I am extremely more dedicated than Grace in training while we are here; she is taking second helpings of cake as I'm doing hundreds of push-ups (one handed).

Great job on the blog today!! You guys are making all of us back home proud and anxious to hear the rest of the stories. I'm sure in heaven there is another book with the names and pictures of the kids at Robin's Nest draped all over some college students from APU ....you know...the ones who have made a difference in the lives of his little ones and contributed to their understanding of HIS love for them!!

The book of James emphasizes faith in action. Right living is the evidence and result of faith. Live in obedience to God's commands, and love one another. The body of believers ought to be an example of heaven on earth, drawing people to Christ through love for "God and each other. If we truly believe God's Word, we will live it day by day. God's Word is not merely something we read or think about, but something we do, Belief, faith and trust must be there in our hearts to do.
Look to one another for encouragment, praise and support, We all get down and sad especially home sick and each one of you will need uplifting at different times while your there.
As you minister to those around you, often the best way to influence someone is to pray for him or her. Paul's prayer for the Philippians was that they would be unified in love. Their love was to result in greater knowledge of Christ and deeper insight. Their love was not based on feelings but on what Christ had done for them. As you grow in Christ's love, your heart and mind must grow together.
Paul encourages the believer to be unified, as they are "standing firm in one Spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel. If we faithfully represent Christ, our message and example affect us and others for good. It takes our eyes off of earthly comforts, it strengthens the faith of those who endure, it serves as an example to others who may follow us. And this is what you are all doing is being a "SHINING LIGHT" of CHRIST!
Sami, everyone here says hi, miss you and love you so much. We are proud of you.:)
I am so proud of you all for taking time to go to another country and probably out of your comfort zone to make a kid smile or just do chores for someone else. It is definitely a servant’s heart that I see in you all. And just for a reminder- you are all blessings to those around you. I hope you continue to grow and be challenges on this amazing journey you are on.
Side notes: Sam-good job on the blog, your love and devotion for Christ just shines through your writing.
Garrett-I was looking at some of the pictures on the blog and I saw that silly yellow hat of yours…where has that hat not been??. Lol. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers; I miss you and love you. I know you are doing amazing things there in Jamaica (buy the way, I still need to find Jamaica on the map-I still don’t know exactly where it is :) I hope that made you smile at least. Everyone misses you here (clarification-your family, me and kyle-at least, lol) but we all know you are on this wonderful trip to touch lives, and we know you are there for a reason and we send our encouragement and love... :)
with LOTS of love,
garrett's kind sis&friend Sarah
Keep those razors out of sight sam, trust me. Beautiful pictures, and a beautiful entry. I felt like I was there in a lot of ways while reading, but I can never fully experience what you guys are. Stay rested, keep working hard, keep striving to be broken and allow God to work through all of you. Remember, the moment we start working through ourselves is the moment we loose our ability to work with God. Love you all.
Hooray! A blog from our son! For a while we thought he was just a figment of everyone's collective imagination there! Glad you are growing your beard and growing your FAITH! We anxiously look for new blogs from everyone everyday. As homesick as you all are feeling, your families and friends back home also miss you. But we daily rejoice in your work and the changes God is making in the lives you touch in His name as well as the changes He is making in YOUR lives. Perhaps that might be the unexpected miracle of this trip.
Continue to have a good time and a rewarding time! I can't believe you have already been gone close to a week. Be safe and we love you!
I don't remember your upcoming schedule but hopefully it involves a little rest for all of you. You've all had a lot of early mornings, work and life-changing effects on yourselves and kids through the day, and late night blogging to keep us all here at home up to date. We all appreciate EVERYTHING you are doing. Can't wait to see what's in store for you (and us at home via your writings) in the next week. Love and miss you all!!
Hey Jamaica Team! This is Joey Olsen's mom writing. Joey came home for the weekend and of course asked if I had been reading the blog. I got my first chance today, but Joey's dad, Jim, has been reading it every day, first thing when he gets to work at Whole Foods. He just couldn't figure out how to post a comment. Us old people are definitely computer challenged.
Anyway, it's a joy to read about what you're doing and to see all your smiling faces. Can't wait to see what's up for next week.
Lindsey, we wish you were here with Joey this weekend. We hope to see you in June. Take care and God Bless you all!

My purpose driven life devotional was really sweet today and since i love procrastinating doing homework i'm going to share it with yall!
These are just bits and pieces from today's by Jon Walker...
"I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world." (Jeremiah 1:5 NLT)
We are all diminished if you hide yourself under a bushel, keeping your skills, your talents, your insights, your joy, and your pain hidden from others. God wants you to share yourself; he created you with a uniqueness that enriches the world when you give yourself to the community around you.
Ask God why He created you and what you’re supposed to give away. Whose life will you influence by giving your time and talent? Maybe you’re a great singer, or a great cook, or a great mechanic, or a great teacher. Whatever gift God has given you, he gave it to you to give away in service to him.
That's it! I think each of you is influencing the lives of children in Jamaica by giving your talent of music, manly chores with power tools, hugs, smiles, one handed push ups (impressive!), throwing people in the air, reading books, and more! Thanks for giving your gifts away to further His kingdom! Miss you guys!
Hello Team Jamaica,
Your blog and the insightful comments are inspiring more people than you realize. You have chosen a way of life that is unselfish and God driven. I pray that more people take the same path because there is so much joy attached. Can you add sound to a blog? Just kiddling but I honestly wish I could hear your voices. I would like to climb into my computer and hug you all. However, Jesus is doing that for me instead.
Jen, you should hear dad tell people about what you and your team are doing and the kids you are serving. He lights up like you cannot believe. This very minute Ally is downstairs with Ashley making that wonderful dessert you made for us before you left. I hope Dunns Falls is great. You inspire me. Your team inspires me. The children inspire me. I love you more than you can imagine, MOM
"Those who keep on doing good and are looking for His greatness and honor will receive life that lasts forever." Romans 2:7
SA,
I'm so happy you put your journalism skills to work! You did a great job and it was so nice to read your little comments that I miss so much! The one picture with you smiling with the little boy is so cute! Jesus has nothing but love for you and keep spreading the word!
I love you Sissy and Gracie!! How is your little thumb? P.S. Sissy(Sami) needs to write a blog! Gracie, there is a movie about a girl who plays soccer with the boys and she kicks booty and its called GRACIE! It is too perfect so keep up that training that SA is talking about! Haha!
Team Jamaica rocks! <3
It's very easy to get too busy to stop and "enjoy the children"--especially here in the US. These are the memories the children will remember for a lifetime. Thank you all for taking a few weeks to focus in on what's really important in life. You may think you are already enjoying the benefits, but the true benefits will come when those young people grow up to appreciate the truly important things in life--one another, partly because of your valuable contribution.
Much love and kisses! Grace's mom.
Kristin, It sounds like the trip so far has been awesome...I pray that you and the rest of the team can see what God can do through you when you open up your life and your time to his service. I'm so proud of you for going on this trip...

Hi all...and my Tyler. Wow, that was an awesome blog. We are all so very fortunate.....we just need to be reminded from time to time...Thanks, for the reminder. Hey, just got back from your sister's horse show, she got 6-1st, 2-2nds, and 1-3rd. Looks like I am going to need to get her a "bigger" hat for her head...Ha Ha. Someone said something about Dunns River Falls???...hope you all get the chance to do that..very cool. Get some rest and Thank God every moment of every day for this amazing journey you all get to experience together. Love and prayers...Tyler's Mom
Hello fellow blogger who wrote a message to Jen and didn't put your name on the comment, I feel your pain. Before I understood the system some of my messages went into lala land but I finally figured it out. Type your message, click on anonymous and press Publish. You'll get it! I know that Jen would LOVE to hear from you, whoever you are!
Hi Jen, from GG. My 3rd try! I get everything written and then I mess up, not clicking on Anonymous, then doing Preview, off to blog heaven. So! the baked oatmeal recipe, sounds so good. And are you liking different fruits, mangoes, persimmon, sweet blood oranges, etc.? I love the manly guy thing, and the one armed push ups, (only 100?).Oh, and I remember offering a big can of bug spray for the skin, didn't need that! It is my favorite part of the day when I can turn on your blog and see the new photos and read everything and wish I was there (for a day or two). I do really sincerely feel the love and laughter right through my computer from you and your team in how caring you are. Those hugs will be locked in the memory banks of the kids and change them forever. And your own life changes will help me, too! Enough of the sweet talk, back to food and sleep! 2 more weeks, then we get to have a photo party with you the story teller. Are the photos taken by one person or different people? They are very, very good.Capturing that second is hard, and each photo posted is perfct. The babies and kidlets with you will be such a memory,of which I have none lately, so printed out and will frame. Tons of love and respect for you and your Team, can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring. GG
sam, i just wanted to say that I am very proud of you and the work you are doing in Jamaica. Just in the way you are expressing yourself in the blog I can see a real change is being made! I miss all of you crazy guys and am praying for strength and safety!
love brit
